UWEC Blugold Camps/Clinics

We wanted to pass on some great camp/clinic info from UWEC.  Most of these are for softball, but the hitting for players and coaches are for both baseball and softball.

Richard Schenck from Hitting Illustrated will be putting on the hitting camp.  He is a professional hitting instructor who works with dozens of professional hitters from the pros through the minor leagues. His most famous current student is Yankee’s outfielder Aaron Judge.

Please follow the link below for more information and to register for any of the camps/clinics.

Sharing a neat story....

We wanted to share a neat story that came from our 14u Fury team that was playing a tournament in Mankato this past weekend.

So on National Canada Day, we played a team from Winnipeg and after the game they gave all of our girls Canadian Flags, pins, socks, and Canadian candy.  We have some great neighbors to our north!!!

Eau Claire Fastpitch Classic

First off, a big thank you to everyone who helped with the tournament this weekend whether it be with set-up, tear-down, concessions, site management, or any of the hundreds of other things that happen behind the scenes in a tournament.  This tournament would not have been possible without the support of the entire organization and the old adage of many hands make light work is never more appropriate than at events like these.

Secondly, congratulations to our 10u and 12u Fury teams for their successes this past weekend.  The 10u Fury team took 3rd place in the Silver Division, and the 12u Fury team earned Bronze Division Champions.  Congratulations to both teams!

Tournament volunteers, soda donations and 14u Fury
Soda donations for the tournament are extremely low compared to prior years.  If you would like to donate more than two 12 packs, it would be greatly appreciated.  Soda donations can either be coordinated with your team parent or be dropped off at the Indoor Facility at 1001 Harris Street, Bldg 1 between 8-5 weekdays or left outside the door if no one is there.

Also, thank you to everyone who has signed up to work concessions during the tournament.  Unfortunately we still have some gaps in coverage.  If you haven't signed up yet or would be willing to work an extra shift, please use the link below.

Finally good luck to the 10u and 12u teams this week in the league tournament.  Also hats off to the 14u Fury team for winning Consolation Championship at the Seymour tournament this past weekend.  Great job ladies!

Request for help from Eau Claire Nationals

The 11-year old state baseball tournament will be hosted in Eau Claire starting this Saturday, July 23 and running through Thursday, July 28 at Jeffers Park.  The Eau Claire Nationals have asked that our families help in any way that we can.  The link below has opportunities to work in concessions, pitch counter, score book, announcer, and score board.

You may ask why our softball organization should help with a baseball tournament.  There are a couple of reasons why besides getting to watch some good baseball.  Eau Claire Fastpitch benefits from the concessions operations at Jeffers Park, and secondly the Nationals helped us out greatly in concessions during our own softball tournament in June when we were short.

Thank you for your consideration!

More tournament success for Eau Claire Fury

Congratulations once again to the 10u and 12u Eau Claire Fury teams for their successes this past weekend at the Altoona Classic Fastpitch Tournament.  The 10u team took 3rd place in their division and the 12u team brought home 1st place.  Once again, great job ladies and coaches!

Also for those who might have missed it on Facebook, the third photo below is of the 12u Eau Claire Fury team and the Manley Heat A team.  The teams played each other in the 12u Gold Championship game a few weeks ago in our own Eau Claire tournament.  Manley won the game but upon learning that this was Eau Claire Fury's first gold championship game they asked to have a photo of both teams with their medals.  What a great show of sportsmanship from the Manley team and what a great accomplishment by the 12u Fury team to make it to that level in the tournament.

League Update

Exciting times for Eau Claire Fastpitch and girls softball in Eau Claire!  After over two years of hard work to make this possible, Jeffers Park will open for field use next Thursday, May 19.  That evening we will have team photos, and our 8u and 10u teams are welcome and encouraged to scrimmage following on the new fields.  A press release will be issued, and it is likely media will be present.  It you can’t make it, watch for us and the Nationals on Channels 13 and 18 at 6 and 10 p.m.  Our regular schedule will adjust to Jeffers Park the following week.  For specific information, please check with your coach or team parent.  Know that the park is new and while the fields are ready, the project is not yet complete.  Also, we need additional funding so please respond to the matching fund drive presently underway.  With the project still in progress that means grading and landscaping is not done, so it could be muddy walking to fields although the City Parks and Rec Department hopes to have wood chip paths to the fields on a temporary basis.  There are not yet bleachers so bring lawn chairs if you want to sit while watching your daughter’s game.  The pavilion is complete and we expect concession operations led this year by the Nationals to be open starting May 19.  Thank Jen Souba when you see her; she is the concessions manager and is moving all the existing equipment and food supplies of the Nationals over to Jeffers Park.  We will need to sign up for volunteer shifts to assist with concessions.  Completing shifts for league and the Eau Claire Classic is necessary to return the parent participation fee.   Speaking of the Classic, expect a press release and coverage to follow on the good news that the tournament is full with 96 teams, the largest ever!  Lots going on, hope many good things going on with your daughter’s team as well.  Hope to see you at the ballpark soon.

Team Photos - May 19th

Team Photos are scheduled for May 19 at Jeffers Park beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Photographs will be taken by team by Sharp Photo for all 8u, 10u, and 12u teams.  An order form is attached and print versions will be distributed through team parents soon.  We expect teams to be scheduled in order from youngest to the older leagues.  There are no present plans for team photographs for our 14u and high school teams as they will not yet be playing league games and we anticipated that parents would be able to order middle or high school team photos.  If there is a desire for photos for 14u or high school, please let your team parent know.  At 8u, 10u, and 12u please look for exact times from team parents and possible associated scrimmages following photos from coaches if Jeffers park fields are playable by then - and we hope they will be.

Message from league president
Jeffers Park has a new addition.  The Trojan Horse sculpture was the winner of the 2015 Sculpture Tour People’s Choice Award and was donated to the City.  The City Council decided to locate the piece at new Jeffers Park and it was recently relocated to its new home.  While there is no direct link to baseball or softball it’s a nice new addition for the community park.  One idea for a possible tie in to our league is that our travel teams have long been called the Fury but without any mascot or image.  Maybe at least in our league we give the horse a new nickname of “Fury” and players can give it a good luck pat on the shoulder before games as we walk in.  Whatever new tradition develops, at least we won’t have to feed or pick up after this horse – although the photo gives a different impression with some dirt piles left by the installers, or maybe “Fury”?

Other developments at Jeffers Park upcoming is the planned installation of a new playground.  The installation date has been tentatively set for the afternoon of Friday June 3 (last day of school for ECASD) and Saturday June 4.  Please reserve those dates if possible to assist with this aspect of the new park development project.

We remain in immediate need of financial donations to the park project and in-kind donations if you are able to supply or help install dugout roofing, dugout benches, bleachers, or construct shelving in our new storage room in the pavilion please contact me or Lane Gibbons.  Coaches, a lock box will be installed and programed on the pavilion with a key to the storage room for access to bases and field equipment prior to games being played at the park, which we expect this May.  A restroom key will also be in the lock box once our league gets a key to the restrooms.  Restrooms are complete and easily the best and most plentiful (Jodi made sure that the women’s room can handle half a team at a time) of any field complex we’ll play at this year, funded and constructed through our community and league fundraising efforts, but they are locked until the park is opened for use.

Keep playing catch, working on fielding “through it, not to it”, and having fun with teammates and daughters.  See you at the ballfield!

Steve Nick

Notes from Eau Claire Fastpitch

It may be the off season but things are still happening at Eau Claire Fastpitch:

The Next Board Meeting will be Sunday November 1, (there is no board meeting this month) next following would be December 6, both at 6:30 p.m. at the indoor practice facility. All are welcome

Fundraising continues for Jeffers Park and we welcome your participation contact Steve, Doug, or Jodi for more information on how you can help.  Great news of new donations including a major sponsorship by Mega Co-op of the concession stand at Jeffers Park along with their $25,000 donation Mega has committed to annual support of the Eau Claire Classic tournament and will offer food and beverage discounts.  We also received a $2,500 donation from Associated Bank, and a $50,000 matching grant from GameTime playground equipment which almost doubles our $60,000 Bremer Foundation grant allowing us to purchase playground equipment this fall for installation next spring – we do need a $7,000 donor by 2016 to cover fall protection quality wood chips to purchase all three pieces of play equipment otherwise we will buy just two pieces, still great!, to allow funding for the wood chips.

The cookie sales raised almost 4000 for the new Jeffers Park GREAT JOB to all who participated

Eau Claire Fastpitch is still in need of a person to serve as secretary and another person to serve as webmaster for 2016. The secretary position is a board position while the webmaster position is not. if interested please reply to this email.

Other notes:

  • The Practice Center should reopen around Jan 1 for all teams to begin warming up for spring.
  •  signup and tryouts will be the first weekends in march. preseason signup materials will be available at the practice center beginning in January
  • Did you know that 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the Eau Claire Fastpitch Classic

Have a great fall

June 23 Newsletter. its Tournament Week

We have a busy week so number of updates.

League Playoffs.  Congratulations to all our teams this year!  The All Star game was last night and now all of our 10U and 12U teams are in action on Tonight hosting home playoff games.  Congratulations again and good luck in the playoffs.

Raffle.  Raffle tickets are being distributed.  If you purchased them with your league sign up and did not yet receive your packet of tickets please contact your team parent, our team parent coordinator Pam Hermodson or league president Steve Nick.  The drawing will be held at University Fields this Saturday at 5:00 p.m.  You do not need to be present to win, just be sure to include your contact information on the raffle tickets and get them turned in to team parents or at University Fields prior to the drawing.  We have great donated prizes from Chippewa Valley Sporting Goods, Lasker Jewelers, Scheels, The Shoe Doctor, and the Sports Warehouse totaling over $1,000 value.  Extra tickets are available for purchase.  Sales support Eau Claire Fastpitch and are needed funds to support our league teams and future Jeffers Park home fields now under construction.

Tournament.  The Tournament begins Friday night. If you have not signed up to help just a friendly reminder that it is required and we have a lot of spaces to fill. Six hours are required We really need help on Sunday, at all locations but especially University fields and clean up. Many hands make light work for all. Also we still need soda donations.

If you have never participated in something like this get involved its fun. Remember a healthy tournament supports the activities of Eau Claire Fastpitch. All of our operations and our contributions to the new park as an organization are dependent on this tournament. Without the tournament we would not have a practice center, we would not be building a park, and we would need to raise our costs.

Have a great week and support our teams and Eau Claire Fastpitch

Newsletter for June 7

School is about out and that means that the 14U and HS league seasons are starting up. Want to see some hard hitting competitive softball, just watch what happens when girls from the same HS team end up on competing teams in League play.

Just  a reminder that we need 12 paks of Soda for the Eau Claire Fastpitch Classic Tournament. To date we have collected only 20% of what we need. Donations can be dropped off at the practice center anytime. If the door is locked just leave outside the door as they are checked daily at 9pm.

We need every family to donate at least one 12 pack of soda for our tournament.

Don't forget to signup on the volunteer list thru sign-up genius www.SignUpGenius.com/go/8050B4CA8AE22A57-20141/

We need every family to work two shifts during the tournament, regardless of whether your daughter is playing in travel ball or not. Game times, ages, and locations are all posted on our website at www.eauclairefastpitch.com

Eau Claire Fastpitch is an all volunteer organization and as such the more volunteers the easier the work is. Fewer volunteers makes it harder on everyone and the programs suffer and our daughters opportunities dwindle.

One exemplary volunteer was Dan Shuda. Dan was the life and soul of this organization for many years. Even after his girls graduated he continued to serve in various capacities most recently as Treasurer. Dan was finally able to walk away from Eau Claire Fastpitch after more than a decade of involvement this last week. This organization does not exist without Dan. If you know him please thank him.

The next question is, who will be the next Dan Shuda. Who will offer their time unselfishly towards the betterment of our sport and for all the girls. Could that be you? At our last, open to all board meeting, on Wednesday we didn't have a single parent of any 8 or 10u child come join us. All who attended had children in the 12U and above. If you have children in that 8 and 10U group, they need a voice, they need you and we need you. We need more Dan Shuda's. Please consider becoming involved.

Eau Claire Fastpitch Newsletter June 2015

Dear Eau Claire Fastpitch Parents;

Hard to believe but we are already half way through our 8, 10, and 12u league seasons. Our teams are tearing it up in their divisions and we look to do really well this league season.

Just a few announcements for all.

We are still collecting 12 packs of soda for the tournament. Your donation benefits us greatly! We only have 4-12packs collected so far and we need a hundred at minimum! Please help us out. They can be dropped off daily at the practice center or drop them at the practice center door which will be checked at 9pm each night

The Eau Claire Fastpitch Board has a meeting scheduled for this Wednesday at 7:30 at the practice center. All are welcome.

The new ballfields will be getting grass seed next week, hopefully we will see lots of grass by the 4th of July. With the new donation of 60,000 from the Otto Bremer Foundation, our new park will have a new playground. The city has also promised a paved parking lot this year with our new paved driveway. Still much to fundraise for like scoreboards, lights, bleachers and pavers. But the park will open for play next year

The tournament sign-up went out last night, please be sure to sign up for a total of six hours, we need your help. Speaking of the tournament, we are looking for people to help learn tournament leadership positions. Especially with concession operations at University. We have two facilities for concessions and it requires a lot of coordination. Also we can always use folks to help coordinate and operate each site. If interested please contact Doug Hayes at 715-271-0531

Finally this weekend we are going to remodel our trailer into a portable cooler. Were looking for folks who can help with that remodel. If you have any construction experience and would be willing to help, contact Doug at 715-271-0531. We will be doing that here at the practice center and your time counts for your volunteer hours

Things are happening at Eau Claire Fastpitch, how many organizations have this much going on? Let everyone know

Jeffers Park Update

Great news on Jeffers Park.  We received an Otto Bremer Foundation grant for $60,000 to support the purchase and installation of playground equipment at the park!  This is in addition to a $10,500 donation from the Sonnentag Foundation to purchase block from County Material for dugouts.  However, even with those generous grants, we need your help to get the fields ready for Fall Ball.  We need dugout sponsors to finish the dugout construction.  $2,000 per dugout will allow us to complete them after the Sonnentag donation.  We also need Eau Claire Fastpitch Families to all purchase a brick or paver for the plaza to raise the last $10,000 needed to complete our concessions building.  Go to our website for more information, talk to your team parent, or contact any of the league officers for more information.

Raffle tickets will be printed soon and distributed through team parents.  Large donors / prizes include The Shoe Doctor, Scheels, Laskers Jewelers, Chippewa Valley Sporting Goods, among others.

Good luck as you start the season.  Play Ball!

INFORMATION ON LEAGUE TEAM SCHEDULES AND STANDINGS

Parents and Players

Eau Claire Fastpitch League Teams play in a much larger area league known as the Chippewa Valley Girls Fastpitch League. To ease confusion this league has always used one website as its main source of information.

That website is the Seymour website which can be reached at www.seymourballclub.com.  Information on games, standings and schedule can be found there.

Our website is being built to have the information for our teams, but due to lack of a webmaster it is not being completed in a timely fashion to begin the season. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Eau Claire Fastpitch is still looking for a volunteer for the position of webmaster. The website is a purchased program and it is just a matter of inputting data. 95% of the work is in the spring between tryouts and opening day. If this sounds like something you would like to do or help out with please contact Doug Hayes Secretary for more information. he can be reached at eauclairefastpitch@yahoo.com

2015 Eau Claire Fastpitch Season

Welcome Eau Claire Fastpitch families to the 2015 softball season!  It should be an exciting season with great opportunities for our daughters to develop softball skills, enjoy a team sport and the friendships that come with it, and to play ball.  I and our other coaches and board of directors look forward to working with you and your daughters to make this another fun and successful season.

We hope to be playing ball on new fields at a new Jeffers Park by later in the season.  There has been great progress on the park being constructed in conjunction with Eau Claire Nationals Little League and the City of Eau Claire thanks to many generous donors and volunteers.  Watch our website for updates on park development and know you are invited and your financial and volunteer help is and will continue to be needed to finish construction and operate the new fields and concession facility.

We have a new indoor practice facility.  Our league was able to offer an indoor practice facility for the first time last year.  That was a major advancement in our league’s resources and a huge benefit to our players in their skill development.  Our board made the decision to retain the recourse of an indoor facility but to relocate our facility to a new larger location on the west side that offers more room, greater ceiling height, and is closer to our new home fields at Jeffers Park.  An earlier League email established preliminary practice times at the facility.  I expect those times will be refined and times for team specific practices will be set after try outs and team formation in February.

There is an upcoming board meeting on Sunday February 8 at 6:30 p.m.  This will be held at our new indoor practice facility.  We had a good turn-out for our last meeting, but we need greater involvement to continue League operations.  We are entirely a volunteer organization and need your involvement to provide opportunities to play softball to your daughter and other girls.  Please consider attending this meeting or other ways you can help in the coming year.  You will be asked to volunteer in some capacity at try-outs as we have to ask for broad volunteer involvement to coach, team-parent, run a large and very successful tournament, and later this year operate a concession facility at new Jeffers Park.  These are great player and league opportunities, but they only happen with all our involvement.

Again, I look forward to sharing time playing ball with your daughters and with you during a great 2015 season.  Thank you.

Stephen Nick, President Eau Claire Fastpitch
