We
are disappointed to tell everyone that with the current weather situation, we,
along with the Eau Claire Nationals, have been advised to cancel opening day
that was scheduled for Saturday, April 28th. Opening day will
not be rescheduled.
While
we understand that the forecast is finally starting to look nice, it will not
be enough to allow us to hold our opening day festivities. In addition to the
weather, there are other factors that need to be taken into account, such as
the prepping of the fields. The city workers will first focus on preparing the
fields that the high schools will need to play on. Even if the fields
“look good”, they will not be ready to be played on until all of the frost is
out of the ground. We are also unsure when it will be safe enough to have the
water turned on so we can use the bathrooms and concession stand.
This
was a difficult decision to make, because we all want to get out and play, but
we have to consider the impact that it will have on our fields if we play or
practice on them too early.
Practice will continue to be
held indoors at the elementary school gyms and Boys and Girls Club until notice
is received from the City that the fields can be used. Weather permitting,
intra-league softball games for the 10u and 12u teams will be held Tuesday, May
8th. Softball league games for 8u, 10u, and 12u teams will
begin Monday, May 14th. Our 14u and high school teams will
start their seasons in early June following the conclusion of the high school
season.
In other news, Eau Claire
Fastpitch will have a board meeting on Wednesday, April 25th.
Checks for player registration fees will be cashed after that date.
Finally, all league families
are expected to work one concession shift at Jeffers Park. To sign-up for
your shift, please use the link http://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a094caaab23a31-concession. This link will also be posted on
our home page at www.eauclairefastpitch.com.
Let’s hope for warm and sunny
days ahead and let’s play ball!

As a reminder, registration is open for the 2018 softball season for both league and Fury teams. The links to both registration forms are below and can also be found on the website www.eauclairefastpitch.com. Please mark your calendars for the league clinic to be held on Sunday, March 4th at the Eau Claire Sport Warehouse. Try-outs for the Fury teams will take place on Sunday, March 11th at the Eau Claire Sport Warehouse. League 2018 Flyer Final to ECASD FINAL.pdf 2018 FURY Registration Form.docx Fury is the name of the tournament teams for Eau Claire Fastpitch. The Fury teams are for those players desiring a more competitive softball experience, and we expect to field teams in the 10u, 12u, 14u, and 16u age groups. Teams for the younger players can expect to play 3-4 tournaments over the summer whereas teams for the older players could play up to 7 tournaments over the summer. Unlike the league teams, playing time may not be equal and parents are expected to have a high level of involvement in the annual Eau Claire Fastpitch softball tournament, to be held the weekend of June 22-24, 2018. We have added a new section to the website for clinic and other softball development opportunities. Please check it out, and if you are aware of other development opportunities please let us know! Finally, the Eau Claire school district no longer allows materials from outside organizations to be sent home with students any longer. We, along with other organizations, have struggled on how to best get our registration information out to families. We ask that you please share our information with friends and neighbors. We have also partnered with the American baseball league. In exchange for sharing their registration information, they will share ours.

these are for softball, but the hitting for players and coaches are for both
baseball and softball. Richard Schenck from Hitting Illustrated will be putting on the hitting

of professional hitters from the pros through the minor leagues. His most
famous current student is Yankee’s outfielder Aaron Judge. Please follow the link below for more information and to register for any of

First off, a big thank you to everyone who helped with the tournament this weekend whether it be with set-up, tear-down, concessions, site management, or any of the hundreds of other things that happen behind the scenes in a tournament. This tournament would not have been possible without the support of the entire organization and the old adage of many hands make light work is never more appropriate than at events like these. Secondly, congratulations to our 10u and 12u Fury teams for their successes this past weekend. The 10u Fury team took 3rd place in the Silver Division, and the 12u Fury team earned Bronze Division Champions. Congratulations to both teams! 10u Fury - Silver Division 3rd Place 12u Fury - Bronze Division Champions

The 11-year old state baseball tournament will be hosted in Eau Claire starting this Saturday, July 23 and running through Thursday, July 28 at Jeffers Park. The Eau Claire Nationals have asked that our families help in any way that we can. The link below has opportunities to work in concessions, pitch counter, score book, announcer, and score board.
You may ask why our softball organization should help with a baseball tournament. There are a couple of reasons why besides getting to watch some good baseball. Eau Claire Fastpitch benefits from the concessions operations at Jeffers Park, and secondly the Nationals helped us out greatly in concessions during our own softball tournament in June when we were short. Congratulations once again to the 10u and 12u Eau Claire Fury teams for their successes this past weekend at the Altoona Classic Fastpitch Tournament. The 10u team took 3rd place in their division and the 12u team brought home 1st place. Once again, great job ladies and coaches! Also for those who might have missed it on Facebook, the third photo below is of the 12u Eau Claire Fury team and the Manley Heat A team. The teams played each other in the 12u Gold Championship game a few weeks ago in our own Eau Claire tournament. Manley won the game but upon learning that this was Eau Claire Fury's first gold championship game they asked to have a photo of both teams with their medals. What a great show of sportsmanship from the Manley team and what a great accomplishment by the 12u Fury team to make it to that level in the tournament. 10u Eau Claire Fury - 3rd place Altoona Classic tournament

Exciting times for Eau Claire Fastpitch and girls softball in Eau Claire! After over two years of hard work to make this possible, Jeffers Park will open for field use next Thursday, May 19. That evening we will have team photos, and our 8u and 10u teams are welcome and encouraged to scrimmage following on the new fields. A press release will be issued, and it is likely media will be present. It you can’t make it, watch for us and the Nationals on Channels 13 and 18 at 6 and 10 p.m. Our regular schedule will adjust to Jeffers Park the following week. For specific information, please check with your coach or team parent. Know that the park is new and while the fields are ready, the project is not yet complete. Also, we need additional funding so please respond to the matching fund drive presently underway. With the project still in progress that means grading and landscaping is not done, so it could be muddy walking to fields although the City Parks and Rec Department hopes to have wood chip paths to the fields on a temporary basis. There are not yet bleachers so bring lawn chairs if you want to sit while watching your daughter’s game. The pavilion is complete and we expect concession operations led this year by the Nationals to be open starting May 19. Thank Jen Souba when you see her; she is the concessions manager and is moving all the existing equipment and food supplies of the Nationals over to Jeffers Park. We will need to sign up for volunteer shifts to assist with concessions. Completing shifts for league and the Eau Claire Classic is necessary to return the parent participation fee. Speaking of the Classic, expect a press release and coverage to follow on the good news that the tournament is full with 96 teams, the largest ever! Lots going on, hope many good things going on with your daughter’s team as well. Hope to see you at the ballpark soon. Steve Nick

Team Photos are scheduled for May 19 at Jeffers Park beginning at 5:00 p.m. Photographs will be taken by team by Sharp Photo for all 8u, 10u, and 12u teams. An order form is attached and print versions will be distributed through team parents soon. We expect teams to be scheduled in order from youngest to the older leagues. There are no present plans for team photographs for our 14u and high school teams as they will not yet be playing league games and we anticipated that parents would be able to order middle or high school team photos. If there is a desire for photos for 14u or high school, please let your team parent know. At 8u, 10u, and 12u please look for exact times from team parents and possible associated scrimmages following photos from coaches if Jeffers park fields are playable by then - and we hope they will be. Jeffers Park has a new addition. The Trojan Horse sculpture was the winner of the 2015 Sculpture Tour People’s Choice Award and was donated to the City. The City Council decided to locate the piece at new Jeffers Park and it was recently relocated to its new home. While there is no direct link to baseball or softball it’s a nice new addition for the community park. One idea for a possible tie in to our league is that our travel teams have long been called the Fury but without any mascot or image. Maybe at least in our league we give the horse a new nickname of “Fury” and players can give it a good luck pat on the shoulder before games as we walk in. Whatever new tradition develops, at least we won’t have to feed or pick up after this horse – although the photo gives a different impression with some dirt piles left by the installers, or maybe “Fury”? Other developments at Jeffers Park upcoming is the planned installation of a new playground. The installation date has been tentatively set for the afternoon of Friday June 3 (last day of school for ECASD) and Saturday June 4. Please reserve those dates if possible to assist with this aspect of the new park development project. We remain in immediate need of financial donations to the park project and in-kind donations if you are able to supply or help install dugout roofing, dugout benches, bleachers, or construct shelving in our new storage room in the pavilion please contact me or Lane Gibbons. Coaches, a lock box will be installed and programed on the pavilion with a key to the storage room for access to bases and field equipment prior to games being played at the park, which we expect this May. A restroom key will also be in the lock box once our league gets a key to the restrooms. Restrooms are complete and easily the best and most plentiful (Jodi made sure that the women’s room can handle half a team at a time) of any field complex we’ll play at this year, funded and constructed through our community and league fundraising efforts, but they are locked until the park is opened for use. Keep playing catch, working on fielding “through it, not to it”, and having fun with teammates and daughters. See you at the ballfield! Steve Nick
